What Cica Actually Does for Your Skin
Cica is short for centella asiatica — a small herb used in Asian medicine for centuries and prescribed in parts of Europe since the 1970s for wound healing. In modern Korean skincare formulations it does two things most calming ingredients don’t manage simultaneously: it reduces inflammation in reactive skin while supporting collagen production in ageing or thinning skin. That combination is why it became the default recommendation for redness, post-treatment recovery, and barrier repair.
The active compounds are four triterpene saponins — madecassoside, asiaticoside, asiatic acid, and madecassic acid — present in the plant itself and isolated for use in higher-concentration formulas.
