If you're going to buy one piece of Korean skincare in 2026, make it sunscreen. The K-beauty SPF category is where Korean formulation genuinely outperforms its Western counterparts — lighter textures, no white cast, higher UVA protection, and a level of cosmetic elegance that makes you actually want to reapply.
Our reviews team tested 23 Korean sunscreens over a 12-week period across three UK skin testers (oily, combination, sensitive) in everyday British conditions: city pollution, hard water, central heating, and actual cloudy spring weather. The seven below made the cut.
Why Korean Sunscreens Outperform Western Ones
South Korea approves modern UV filters that the UK and US still restrict — including Tinosorb S and Tinosorb M, which provide broader UVA coverage at lower concentrations. This regulatory advantage means Korean formulations can achieve PA++++ (the highest UVA rating) with textures so light they feel like skincare rather than sunscreen.
The UK hard water issue: Most guides ignore this, but hard water affects how sunscreen sits on skin. We tested every product listed below through a rinse with London-hardness water. Only formulations that maintained performance made the cut.
How We Tested
Each sunscreen was worn daily for four weeks across three testers. We assessed: application texture, white cast (photographed in natural light), finish at 3 hours and 6 hours, makeup compatibility, and how it performed after a cycle commute in autumn conditions. How to Apply Korean Sunscreen Correctly
The most common reason sunscreen fails is under-application. The amount needed to achieve the labelled SPF is two finger lengths of product for the face and neck — roughly 1.25ml or a quarter teaspoon. Most people apply a quarter of this amount.
Apply as the final step of your morning skincare routine, 5–10 minutes before going outside. Do not mix with moisturiser — apply them separately to preserve filter integrity. Reapply every two hours if you're outdoors in summer, or after swimming.
